Subraces

When creating your character, select the base racial type (Elf, Dwarf, etc.), then select Subrace and enter the proper Subrace Keyword (e.g.: for a Sun Elf, enter: Sun Elf; or just: Sun). This subrace system is part of the Hardcore Ruleset (HCR).

Shield Dwarves
Note: This is the default BioWare dwarf, and will be chosen by the system if no subrace keywords are entered.

When most people think of a dwarf, it’s a shield dwarf they have in mind. Short, stout, skilled warriors and known for their ability to consume large quantities of ale. Most shield dwarves have lost their underground kingdoms in the eternal wars again the goblin-kind. They have either taken to hiding, keeping far from other races, or to wandering, keen to interact with others and explore. Their skin is usually tanned and their hair is mostly black, gray or brown.

Gold Dwarves
Unlike the shield dwarves the gold dwarves still hold their kingdom, located in the Great Rift. Due to confidence in the security of their remote home they have gained a reputation of being haughty. They often have a light-brown skin and share the same range in hair color as the shield dwarves.

Elves

Moon Elves
Note: This is the default BioWare elf, and will be chosen by the system if no subrace keywords are entered.

The most commonly found elf in Faerûn is the moon elf. Tolerant of other races they are known for their merry ways and zest for life. Lithe and graceful they are found beautiful by many, though they are known to wield their skill with deadly ease. Their skin is fair (and sometimes tinged with blue) and their hair is silver-white, black or blue (though human-like colors are also possible).

Sun Elves
The sun elves, or gold elves, are the most civilized and haughty of elves. They often remain separate from non-elven races, preferring to live in seclusion on the elven island of Evermeet, a place forbidden to those not of elven blood (and those of dark elven blood). They have bronze skin and hair of golden blond, copper or black.

  • Feats: Immunity to Sleep, Hardiness vs. Enchantments, Bonus Proficiencies (Longsword, Rapier, Shortbow, Longbow), Skill Affinity (Listen), Skill Affinity (Search), Skill Affinity (Spot), Keen Senses, Low-light Vision.

Wild Elves
Wild elves remain hidden deep in the thick forests and as such are rarely seen. They are slightly more common in the warmer, jungle climates of the south. Their skin tends to be a dark-brown and their hair has a color in the range from black to light brown, lightening to silvery white with age.

Wood Elves
The wood elves live in the seclusion of their forests, but are more visible than the almost feral wild elves. They have a coppery skin tinged with green. Their hair is usually brown or black, with the occasional blonde or coppery-red.

Gnomes

Rock Gnomes
Note: This is the default BioWare gnome, and will be chosen by the system if no subrace keywords are entered. No additional gnomish subraces are offered as PC races in this module.

Almost all the gnomes you’ll see will be rock gnomes, as they are by far the most common kind of gnome. So much so in fact that they’re mostly just called gnomes. They have an inquisitive nature, are irrepressible and can at times be insincere. They have a knack for mechanical workings and excel at the more detailed crafts such as gemcutting and clockmaking.

  • Ability Adjustment: +2 Con, -2 Str
  • Feats: Small Stature, Hardiness vs. Illusions, Offensive Training vs. Reptilians, Offensive Training vs. Goblinoids, Defensive Training vs. Giants, Skill Affinity (Listen), Skill Affinity (Concentration), Spell Focus (Illusion), Low-light Vision.

Halflings

Ghostwise Halflings
Ghostwise halfling are wild and nearly feral. They live in the deep forests and rarely leave. They have the ability to communicate telepathically with others, making them a closely-knit community, uncomfortable with outsiders. (In-game telepathic communication should be held in the tell channel).

  • Subrace Keywords: Ghostwise or Ghostwise Halfling
  • Ability Adjustment: +2 Dex, -2 Str
  • Feats: Small Stature, Skill Affinity (Move Silently), Skill Affinity (Listen), Fearless, Good Aim.

Lightfoot Halflings
Note: This is the default BioWare halfling, and will be chosen by the system if no subrace keywords are entered.

When people think of a halfling, a lightfoot halfling is mostly what they have in mind. They have a desire to wander and are likely to give in to it, making them the most commonly seen type of halfling. They feel quite at home with the other races, commonly working side-by-side with them.

  • Subrace Keywords: Lightfoot or Lightfoot Halfling (or leave blank)
  • Ability Adjustment: +2 Dex, -2 Str
  • Feats: Small Stature, Skill Affinity (Move Silently), Skill Affinity (Listen), Lucky, Fearless, Good Aim.

Strongheart Halflings
The strongheart halflings are an organized, orderly and industrious race. They would stand to defend their homes in cases the lightfoot halflings would flee. They have a strong warrior tradition and possess a hint of arrogance and confidence in their abilities and skills.

  • Subrace Keywords: Strongheart or Strongheart Halfling
  • Ability Adjustment: +2 Dex, -2 Str
  • Feats: Small Stature, Skill Affinity (Move Silently), Skill Affinity (Listen), Fearless, Good Aim.
